Some Good News...Finally!

I don't remember if I posted anything about this previously, but Hubby had a phone interview about a month ago. It was with a teaching school in the NE, one that had actually run a search in the English department in my field, but I did not get an interview request. Hubby said the interview went well, though he then picked himself apart as many of us do after these things. Then, out of the blue last week, he got an e-mail request for a campus visit!! Hooray for Hubby!

I'm not yet jaded, but I've learned my lesson: don't fall for the school. One must not fall for any school before one signs a contract, because surely one will end up with a broken heart. I haven't fallen in love with this school, buuuuuut, there are many things about which I am very excited, such as:
  • the location--it's about 30 minutes from Awesome Capital City (ACC); it's also within driving distance of Hubby's family. Because of the location, the school is near lots of other schools at which I could potentially find work as an instructor.
  • the schools--the state has some of the best public schools in the U.S.
  • the job--it's a tenure-track job, which means it could be the place where we make our forever home (that is, as long as I can also find academic employment with which I'm happy)
  • the location--it's fantastic! fall seasons would be beautiful, and we'd have the chance to vacation at the shore every summer

Hubby has to complete both a job talk and a departmental interview, in addition to the usual meetings. I think he'll do really well; he's a great teacher, at least that's what I hear from his students all the time. I heard it back at our main campus and I hear the same things hear. His students love him, and his passion for teaching and his field are clearly evident when he's in the classroom. I'm so happy that he has this opportunity!

What wonderful news, it opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for all of you!

As for the "don't fall in love with the school" . . . people in the contract world everywhere have the same problem. I can't even count the number of times we have gotten excited over a possibility that never came to be. Even ones that came to be, came after lurches and stumbles, and YEARS after they were bid.

I know you are so ready to leave Qatar. Keeping you in prayer for an ideal work/family environment. :-)
