You Have No Idea

how completely, utterly shitty I feel right now. Some of it's job related, but mostly it's family related (not my husband, children, or in-laws). I don't have it in me to write more at the moment because the little ones will see me crying, which makes them worry, and they should never have to worry about the stuff Mama has to deal with.

I'm so so so sorry! I wish you didn't have to go through this pain. I'm thinking of you/ praying.

How recent is recent and how British is British (Australia and South Africa OK)?

Maybe 1984, Lord of the Flies, Moon Tiger, Remains of the Day, Atonement, Brideshead Revisted, Sense of an Ending, Pillars of the Earth

Hard to imagine avoiding sci-fi and dystopia novels in a class like this and still present a representative sense of the age--nostalgia for the past and fear of the future.

The course catalog implies that "recent" means post-1945. I'm planning to include 1984, which I enjoyed as an undergraduate. I'm hoping to approach it from a thematic perspective--post-war and the family/domestic--rather than from a strictly canonical perspective. That's where I'm having difficulty determining which works will be most useful.
